The Walker Community Center will open 5 p.m. Saturday for the Coleville High School Boosters Club barbecue dinner at 6 p.m. The evening will follow the completion of the Antelope Valley Lions Club basketball tournament, which will take place Friday and Saturday. The cost of dinner will be $12 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12 years old, with those 5 years old and younger free. As a special treat, the kids will receive a visit from Santa. The boosters will have door prizes, raffles, a silent auction, and a dessert auction. This is a tasty and fun way to support our school's athletes and their programs.

Social evening at Mono Chamber

The Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce is again holding their Christmas social Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Walker Community Center. Drinks and dinner start at 6:30 p.m. and they will be hosting an auction which will include delicious desserts. I'll have some more details for your next week. Keep this date open, as it will be our community's last get-together before the holidays. Donations and desserts would be appreciate. Just call (530) 208-6078 for reservations or to make a donation.

Senior center trip

The Walker Senior Center has a bus trip planned to Hunan Chinese Restaurant in Gardnerville for a buffet dinner on Dec. 12, leaving the center at 4:30 p.m. Dinner, tax and tip is $8.95. The bus service will be provided by the Antelope Valley Senior Citizens Workshop, better known as the Walker Thrift Store and Recycling Center. Make reservations by Dec. 8 at (530) 495-2323.

Middle school basketball

After a well-deserved week off for Thanksgiving, the boys were back at it yesterday and today, with another game at the Coleville High School gym at 3 p.m. Thursday against Schurz. They will also have a challenging game Monday at Coleville against Virginia City, which gave them their only loss two weeks ago. These kids are fun to watch, so try to drop in and see their games.

Deck the halls

I know that not everyone is into Christmas decorating. I keep it fairly simple inside our home, but Mike loves putting up the lights outdoors. He has them all up and working already, which has really got him into the Christmas spirit. I hope that means a nice present for the woman of the house.
