Genoa Christmas

Christmas in Genoa starts tonight with caroling at 5 p.m. at the Genoa Community Church. Christmas tree lighting and Santa visit is 6-6:15 p.m. with refreshments afterward.

The Genoa Christmas Faire is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Genoa Town Hall.


Victorian Christmas

The Dake House, 2242 Main St., Genoa, will be decorated in a Victorian-era Christmas theme through Monday. The staff will dress in period costumes and refreshments will be served. Information, Bob and Martha Williams, 782-4951.


Gingerbread display

Enter the Carson Valley Arts Council's fourth annual Gingerbread House Decorating Contest by today. Houses will be on display through Dec. 13 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center. Information and entry forms, Dennis Little, 267-5634 or CVGingerbread@aol.com.


Holiday crafts

Minden's Christmas Marketplace noon to 8 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the old C.O.D. Garage. Santa will be available for pictures today. German food, hot dogs and hot chocoate for sale. Entertainment by carolers, dancers, martial arts demonstrations and live music by Relaxed Fit.

The lights come on in Minden Park and the Girl Scouts sing Christmas carols at 6 p.m. Friday. Information, 782-2444.


Elks bingo

The Elks annual Spaghetti Feed and Christmas Tree Bingo is 4:30 p.m. today at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Spaghetti dinner starts at 5 p.m. The Minden Park gazebo lighting is 6 p.m., and then return to the CVIC Hall for bingo. Winners receive Douglas fir Christmas tree certificates from Carson Valley Garden & Ranch Center. Information, Tom Zogorski, 265-5545.


Holiday Gala

at museum

Douglas County Historical Society holiday events Saturday include the Gallery of Trees, cookie walk at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., photos with Santa from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and gingerbread house display at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Information, 782-2555.


Parade of Lights

The annual Parade of Lights is 5 p.m. Saturday on Highway 395 from Waterloo Lane to Minden Park. Information, 782-8144.


Photos with Santa

Register at Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department for photos with Santa, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, at Photo Happy, 1573 Highway 395, Minden.

Cost is $10 per child which includes a 4-by-6 inch photo, activities with Santa's elves and Mrs. Claus' hot chocolate. The parks and recreation department is at 1327 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. Information, 782-9828.


Handbell concert

The Tintabulations handbell choir from Reno will perform 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.

Concert music includes traditional Christmas carols and patriotic music in honor of Pearl Harbor Day. Playing with Tintabulations will be the Shaken, Not Stirred handbell quartet from the University of Nevada, Reno, and the Barefoot Belles handbell trio from Carson Valley United Methodist Church. The concert is free, but donations are appreciated.


Carson Valley Pops perform

The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra presents "A Musical Christmas," 6 p.m. Sunday, at the CVIC Hall, Minden. The free concert features traditional Christmas music and songs by the Relaxed Fit vocal group. Information, carsonvalleypops.org or 267-5575.
