The Coleville High School and Antelope Elementary School students are combining their opera performance with a Christmas celebration 7 p.m. tonight at the Coleville High School gym. Grades 1 through 4 will perform "The Twelve Days of Christmas," grades 5 through 8 will do "A Christmas Carol," and the high schoolers will perform "The Barber of Seville." The kids did such a great job last year, you really don't want to miss them.
School sports
The Coleville High School girls' volleyball team finished in first place in the NIAA "A" Western Division, but even better, they came in second among 105 schools for a team grade-point average. They were edged out by only two-hundredths of a point. Congratulations to the girls and their teachers. As a further success story, their coach, Kevin Kraft was named coach of the year.
The middle school boys' basketball team will have finished their regular season by the time you read this. Through last week they had an overall record of 7-2, with only one game left this past Monday afternoon. The championship will be held this Saturday, but I have no details on where or what time.
The Antelope Valley Lions Club's high school basketball tournament was held last Friday and Saturday, with the Coleville boys' and girls' teams winning it all. That's a great way to be ready for their regular season.
Chamber social evening Saturday
The Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual social and ham dinner with the trimmings 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the community center. Besides their tasty dinner, they will have many raffles. The cost is only $10 per person. For this adults only evening. This will be our last community get-together before the holidays, so it would be fun to go.
New recycler in town
A longtime and well-known Antelope Valley resident has joined the staff of the Walker Thrift Store and Recycling Center. Most of you know Dick Horvath, so take in your recycling or go to shop and say hi to him. He's there Thursday through Saturday, and he'll be glad to see everyone.
