It may not be so damp this weekend, as significantly colder. According to the National Weather Service, the big refrigerator door that was a high pressure system over the West Coast will open wide and let all the Arctic air stuck behind it in, lowering highs by 20-30 degrees by Sunday. A strong cold front is coming along for the ride that may bring some rain and snow to the Sierra. According to a weather statement issued this morning, forecasters aren't expecting a lot of snow with this storm, but there is the potential more will come.

The power company is seeking a special use permit to put an electrical substation on a portion of the property occupied by the North Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant. NVEnergy is asking for the change on a piece of Douglas County property as part of their upgrade of the electrical lines feeding northern Carson Valley. Planning commissioners meet 1 p.m. today at the Douglas County Administrative Building, 1616 Eighth St.

Speaking of energy, school board members are scheduled to discuss their performance contract with Ameresco, an energy services company, which for $5 million will find energy savings in the school district's buildings amounting to a savings of $450,000 a year. The school board meets 3:30 p.m. at Douglas High School in Minden.

If it's Tuesday, the U.S. Forest Service must be holding their 4-6 p.m. open house on road restrictions on the Bridgeport Ranger District in Bridgeport. On Wednesday night they go to Smith Valley High School in Smith for a 6-8 p.m. open house.
