They're already collecting food at the annual Share Your Holidays Drive-by Food Drive at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. If you've got anything to donate, this is an opportunity to participate. They'll be collecting stuff through 6 p.m. tonight. Douglas almost always gives out of proportion to its size, let's keep that tradition going.
Tonight is going to be a howler with the possibility of winds hitting up to 75 mph in the Carson Valley and 100 mph in Washoe Valley and other wind prone areas along the Sierra. The Weather Service has issued a high wind warning starting at 7 p.m. tonight, saying that damage to trees, power lines and property is likely with the winds expected. Crosswinds will make driving on highways 395, 88 and 50 through Douglas County treacherous.
The wind warning wraps up at 7 a.m. Saturday. The Weather Service is predicting snow by 10 p.m., with the level dropping to 4,300 feet overnight. Don't expect to see much snow early in this storm, because the front's going cook through here like an express train. The real chance for snow will arrive Sunday night and last through the day on Monday. There's a chance of snow in the forecast through Thursday.
