About a half inch of snow fell last night, just enough to make the morning commute interesting as a winter storm warning enters its second day. Chains or snow tires are being required on Highway 395 from just north of the California state line to William Street in Carson. They are also being required on any route up to Lake Tahoe. That's the good news. If you're crossing the passes this morning in anything other than a four-wheel drive, expect to chain up.
The forecast for today is for 1-3 inches of snow with a high temperature of 33 degrees. By tonight, the chance for snow drops down to 70 percent and then down to 60 percent on Tuesday. The winds accompanying the storm weren't quite as bad as expected. We had a 53 mph gust in Gardnerville on Saturday morning.
The school district is holding a town hall meeting on the budget 6 p.m. at Carson Valley Middle School to gather ideas for dealing with coming cuts. If you can't make it to the meeting, the district is asking residents to e-mail suptoffice@dcsd.k12.nv.us with suggestions.
