Coleville's Peters a hometown football star

It isn't surprising that Jason Peters was named Northern 1A Most Valuable Player of the Year by the Reno Gazette-Journal, and it was great to read the article about him in Sunday's paper.

Jason's statistics for this year were totally awesome, and he set several records for 8-man football. He now holds the records for season passing yards (3,477), number of touchdowns (59 in 11 games), and many single-game records.

Along with Jason's success, wide receiver Emmi Sandoval was named to the All-North team.

Congratulations to these young men and the rest of their team for a very good season!

Chamber social

and dinner

This year, the Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce teamed with the Veterans of Foreign Wars to put on their holiday social and dinner. Mike and I weren't able to attend, but the reports from our friends said it was one of the best evenings they had spent in a long time. There were tons of raffle prizes to win, a delicious ham dinner, and the topper to the evening was the karaoke music. Dave Robbins and Tim Fesko did a great job as masters of ceremonies.

During the evening Dick Padgett was awarded a well-deserved certificate of appreciation for his 20 years of service to the Antelope Valley Fire District. All in all, it was a great way to end this year's social season.

School sports

Our high school basketball teams haven't begun their regular league season yet, but they have been playing in a couple of pre-season tournaments to get ready. Go, Wolves!

The middle school boys' basketball team finished the season out of the championship, but they had a great time and played well through their schedule. I'm sure they'll do even better next year.

This and that

As I write this on Monday morning, we had light snowfall last night, with more forecast, and the radio playing "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas." It is all helping me get ready for the holidays and putting me in the spirit. Mike has all our lights up outdoors, and the house is decorated, so now I've just got to finish my shopping.

Happy holidays!
