Santa may bring Carson Valley a big wet present wrapped in white for Christmas if the forecast holds.
The National Weather Service is calling for storms to arrive in Northern Nevada today and Christmas.
"The main threat today will be the wind," Meteorologist Kyle Mozley said, predicting gusts of up to 50 mph. "We're probably not going to see too much more than we've had over the past few days."
However, the Christmas Day system is wetter and is expected to bring a higher potential for snowfall.
"Right now we're looking at a couple of inches," he said. "As it gets closer we'll be able to pinpoint more accurately how much we'll see in Western Nevada."
A more northerly storm tract should keep temperatures cool enough to produce snow today and Christmas, Mozley said.
A series of storms this week left about a tenth of an inch of moisture in Carson Valley, according to Carson Valley weather watcher George Uebele. Uebele recorded a half-inch of snow in Sheridan Acres on Monday.
Weather watcher Stan Kapler reported a similar snowfall in Minden. Kapler said the total moisture in the Douglas county seat has only hit .65 inches since Oct. 1. Average precipitation for October and November is .89 inches.
