Carson City-based AMFM Reno plays classic rock and oldies to modern alternative " everything from Chuck Berry to Buckcherry. The band is Al Reed on rhythm guitar and vocals, Bob Skaggs on lead guitar and vocals, David Lee on drums and vocals and 1996 Douglas High grad Bill Allen on bass guitar and vocals.

New Year's party at Sharkey's

A roaring '20s New Year's party is celebrated with Lucky Diamond and the Gents O' Jive, 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dec. 31 at Sharkey's Casino, 1440 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Presented by the Mile High Jazz Band, Lucky Diamond and the Gents O' Jive play '20s and '30s hot jazz from Fats Waller's "Ain't Misbehavin'" to Billy Austin's "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby."

Minden

Carson Valley Inn entertainment

M8trix appears through Sunday and various duos entertain on Monday nights. Cabaret Lounge entertainment is presented with no cover and no minimum in 45-minute shows at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 p.m.

M8trix performs the best of '70s, '80s, '90s, Motown, R&B, pop and jazz, Latin and disco. The band is led by vocalist Stephanya and is rounded out with guitarist Mark Daniels, Michael Harper on bass, drummer Adam Lipsky and Moogie Clemon on keyboards.

Shake, Rattle 'n Roll takes the Cabaret Lounge stage Tuesday and plays until Jan. 4. The band has a song list of more than 500 classic rock 'n roll tunes of the '50s, '60s and '70s without the aid of computers and tapes. Shake, Rattle 'n Roll features Lee Bellinger on lead vocals, Andy Highhouse on guitar, Michael Tucker on bass and vocals, Warren Purcell on drums and Bill Crane on keyboards and vocals.

n NFL and college football are featured on giant plasma screens and with draft beer and snack specials in the Cabaret Lounge. Drawings for prizes during the Jan. 18 conference championship games and the Superbowl on Feb. 1.

n The Carson Valley Inn celebrates New Year's Eve with specials in Fiona's Bar and Grill and Katie's Country Kitchen, double points in the casino and entertainment by Shake, Rattle & Roll in the Cabaret Lounge.

Fiona's will be open 4:30- 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve with the regular menu plus the specials of Carpetbagger Mignonette New York steak stuffed with Pacific oysters and creamed spinach or crusted Hawaiian ono with papaya-mango ketchup.

Make New Year's Eve reservations for Fiona's at 783-6650. Express lunch will not be served in Fiona's on Dec. 31. Express lunch served 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Dinner specials at Katie's Country Kitchen from 4-9 p.m. New Year's Eve include fire-grilled top sirloin steak, rice pilaf, vegetables and choice of lobster tail or steamed king crab legs. Specials include a choice of salad or soup of the day, breads and chocolate mousse, apple pie or ice cream.

The Mark Castro and Satia acoustic duo play, 8:30-11:30 p.m. Saturday at Indigo. The show features Castro on guitar and Satia on vocals and bass. The duo play classic rock songs from Chuck Berry, The Ventures, Santana, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin and The Beatles.

continues

The Carson Valley Arts Council 2008-09 concert series continues with Great Basin Brass, 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda in Minden.

A wine, beer and cheese reception sponsored by Tahoe Ridge Winery is at 6 p.m. Desserts by Bravo Cafe & Bakery served at 8:30 p.m. Admission is a $15 donation at the door. Information, 782-8207.

The 2008-09 concert series continues with flamenco guitarist Kaweh on Feb. 6, blues guitarist Chris Cain on March 13 and Mumbo Gumbo on May 8.
