Square dancing
and ballroom dance
n Beginning square dance class is 7-9:15 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 6 through March 24 at the Genoa Town Hall. Cost per class is $5 for teens and $7 for adults. Line dancing is taught 7-7:15 p.m. Registration is open for new dancers Jan. 6 and Jan. 13. Cookies and coffee provided.
n Dancing Like the Stars ballroom dance classes for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students is 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 7 through March 25, at the Dresslerville Community Center, 1585 Watasheamu Dr., Gardnerville. Introduction to ballroom dancing includes swing, cha-cha, fox trot, waltz and tango. Class is limited to 25 couples. Cost is $8 per person per session.
n Adult ballroom dancing for swing, cha-cha, waltz, two-step, tango and salsa, is 7:30-9:15 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 7 through March 25, at the Dresslerville Community Center. Parks & Rec activities

Kindermusik. Infants to age 7 learn direction, guidance and responsiveness through music. Classes are Wednesdays starting January 21. Cost is $130.
Watercolor basics. Covers basic watercolor procedures, techniques and styles. Classes are 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 6 to Feb. 24, at the TRE building. Cost is $125.
Ballroom dance. Learn the fundamentals of the fox trot, swing, waltz and Latin dances. Classes are 7-8 p.m. Fridays, Jan. 9-30, for adults at the Dance Workshop, 1697 County Road, Minden. Cost, $75 per couple.
Scrapbooking workshop. Bring photos along with albums, adhesives, papers and pens. Class is 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 10 at Gardnerville Elementary School. Cost, $10.
Concealed weapon certification course exceeds Nevada state concealed weapon requirements. Class is 6-9:30 p.m. Jan. 14 and Jan. 16 at the recreation annex building and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Douglas County Shooting Range. Cost, $90 plus $10 insurance fee.
Dog obedience helps establish good conduct and curb bad habits, 7-8 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 7 to Feb. 11, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Building. Cost is $80.
Yoga focuses on the body, mind and spirit with concentration on control, stretching and breathing. Class is 9:30-11 a.m. or 7-8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays Jan. 5-29 at the recreation annex, 1327 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. Cost is $40.
Go out for a play
Auditions for Carson Valley Community Theatre's production of "Hollywood Arms" by Carrie Hamilton and Carol Burnett are 6:30-9 p.m. Jan. 9, at the Justin Clouser law office, 1669 Lucerne St., Suite A-3, Minden Village. Call-backs are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 10. There are 11 parts to be cast for people to play characters ages 10-65. Producer and costumer also needed.

Watercolor classes
Free watercolor classes taught by Ralph Chizek are 10 a.m. to noon Fridays, Jan. 16 through May 15, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. Materials and expectations will be discussed at the Jan. 16 session. Information, 782-2555.
Line dancing, tai chi
Earl Mussett teaches line dancing, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Fridays, at Sharkey's and 2-4 p.m. Mondays at the Carson City Senior Center. Cost, $5 per session.
Mussett teaches tai chi classes through Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department, 8-10 a.m. Saturdays. Winter classes are at Gardnerville Elementary School. Cost is $5 per month. Information, 782-6603.
Painting classes
Artist Reiko Hervin offers drawing and watercolor classes from February to May at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.
Each beginning, intermediate or advanced level class includes 30 minutes of still-life drawing and two hours of watercolor painting and critique.
Beginning class A: Step-by-step for the absolute beginner, 9:30 a.m. to noon, Feb. 12, Feb. 26, March 12, March 26, April 23, and May 14.
Intermediate class B: For less than three years' painting experience, 1-3:30 p.m. Feb. 12, Feb. 26, March 12, March 26, April 23 and May 14.
Advanced class C: For advanced amateurs with more than five years' painting experience, 1-3:30 p.m. Feb. 5, Feb. 19, March 19, April 2, April 30 and May 7.
