A hearing in preparation for the Feb. 19 trial of convicted child molester James Hope is scheduled in district court this morning. Hope faces trial in both Douglas County and Carson City on charges he molested children under the age of 14. Hope fled Western Nevada in 2004 for Washington, where he was captured and convicted of felony child molestation. He was sentenced to life in prison. He is scheduled to go to trial in Carson City this week.
Somehow, in the middle of all this weather, the Nevada Department of Transportation reports there will be road work in Carson Valley. Utility work will be the big hold-up on Centerville Lane and Gilman Avenue in Gardnerville starting 8:30 a.m. today and wrapping up 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Work will be limited to those hours on Tuesday and most commuters should avoid it. If you're running late, though, expect to be later, thanks to 15-minute travel delays. Road work is also being done at night between Muller Lane and south Carson Street. Watch out after 8 p.m. and before 5 a.m. for reduced lanes and a double nickel speed limit.
The last gasp of snow for a bit fell late last night before midnight. With a low in the teens, it will be an icy commute this morning, so take it easy. Work will still be there when you arrive.
