OSHA taking over scene of electrical injury

Three Carson Valley Plaza businesses lost power in an incident that injured a 46-year-old Sierra Pacific Power Co. worker this afternoon.

The victim received second- and third-degree burns to his face and left hand while working on a transformer behind the Best Buy at about 11:45 a.m. The incident was reported by a co-worker.

The victim, identified as William "Bill" Cook, was treated on-scene by East Fork Paramedics, and then flown by emergency helicopter to Renown Medical Center in Reno. Cook was subsequently transported to UC Davis Medical Center in California for additional treatment for his injuries. His current medical condition since arriving at UC Davis is unknown.

No one else was injured as a result of the incident. The Nevada State Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.

Sierra Pacific spokesman Karl Walquist said Play It Again Sports and Maurice's are likely to be out until noon Friday, a shoe store should be back in service tonight.
