Speech and debate team places in Carson tournament

Douglas High School's Speech and Debate Team competed Feb. 1 and 2 in Carson City. Travis Moore took second place in novice impromptu. Kevin Johnston was fourth and Kevin Kendrick was second in senior impromptu.


Dalton Tutt made it to the final round of senior poetry and prose interpretation. Evan Kleiner and Will Dornbrook won first and second place in novice foreign extemporaneous speaking. In senior speaking, Colton Dale placed fourth and J.R. Stevens was first. Clara Ritger was third in senior humorous interpretation.

Carson Valley Middle School students Alex Cerny and Amelia Ritger placed sixth and fourth and Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School student Tara Chitwood took fifth in novice humorous interpretation. Carson Valley Middle School students Molly Ellery won fifth in novice poetry prose interpretation and Nicole Romaneschi took third in novice original oratory.

Kevin Kendrick finished first in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate while ninth-graders Amelia Ritger and Megan Frost each took third. Colton Dale and partner Mariana Aguilar were second in senior policy debate. Dale also took first place speaker points. The team of J.R. Stevens and Clara Ritger won a first-place trophy.


The debate team will attend the University of California, Berkeley, Invitational. The team hosts the spring craft fair fundraiser, March 15, at Douglas High School.
