Are your medications interacting? Find out for sure what you're taking and what it's doing to you at a program to explain medication therapy management, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 22, at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville.
Teresa Sacks from the Sanford Center on Aging explains how the management program offers free medication reviews to seniors age 60 and older who are taking five or more medications. A certified geriatric pharmacist will review prescription effectiveness and a nurse case-manager will coordinate with you and your physician to ensure that you are receiving proper medications.
Past studies have found that 81 percent were at risk of interactions between two or more prescription drugs, 23 percent were taking a drug not recommended for older adults and 9 percent unknowingly received duplicate medications.
To take advantage of this program, contact the Sanford Center on Aging at (775) 784-1612.
