Martial Arts Expo V goodwill tournament is March 9 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Gardnerville and is open to the public and all schools and styles of martial arts. Event proceeds benefit Douglas County Sheriff's Search & Rescue.
"This is our fifth expo and it's becoming very popular," said Diane Ortenzio-Cooling of Sierra Dojo. "There are many diverse martial arts styles represented and we come together and have a great time. Plus, we donate all money after expenses to a local charity. This time everything is going to Douglas County Sheriff's Search & Rescue unit. They are an awesome group of people that most county residents don't think about until they need to find a lost loved one. DCSSAR depends on donations to keep their equipment and training up to date."
A ju-jitsu division is added to the forms and sparring competitions. The halftime program features demonstrations by area instructors. The entry fee of $15 covers all events. Spectator fee is $5 for ages 6 and older. Registration at 10 a.m. Competition begins 12:15 p.m.
