Youth in Carson Valley will have access to a drop-in resource center starting this week. The Tahoe Youth & Family Services, based in South Lake Tahoe, has opened a satellite center at Tillman Lane and Kimmerling Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
"We're here to meet the needs for kids who need concrete resources," said Outreach coordinator Cheyanne Lane. "We also have a crisis line to let kids know there's someone out there to talk to."
The center will eventually provide a place for youth to take showers, do laundry and have computers to help in job searches. The agency provides counseling for youth 10-18 years old and their families and information on drugs, alcohol and prevention of high-risk behaviors.
"This center is also a safe place for kids to come and hang out. And once they're here, we can get them connected to resources," said Alissa Nouse, Tahoe Youth & Family Services executive director.
Tahoe Youth & Family Services also provides help to parents who have questions about drugs, alcohol and parenting.
"This is a place for parents and the crisis line is also for parents," said Lane.
The Ranchos location of Tahoe Youth & Family Services is at 719 Tillman Lane, Unit B, next to Cyber Circus.
Information at the main office, 782-4202, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The crisis line is (800) 870-8937.
