An unidentified man was found dead of a gunshot wound early Thursday at a home in the Wildhorse subdivision of Johnson Lane.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office did not release the man's identity pending notification of relatives.
Capt. Keith Logan said someone called 911 at 3:20 a.m. to report a man had been shot. By the time deputies arrived, the victim was dead.He said the gunshot wound was not self-inflicted, and the incident was being treated as a homicide.
Deputies cordoned off the street between Stephanie and Melborn as investigators from the sheriff's office and the Washoe County Crime Lab processed the scene.
Two Douglas County district attorneys were on scene with about 15 investigators, deputies, reserve officers and other law enforcement personnel.
Investigators obtained a search warrant about 9:30 a.m. to go inside the house.
Logan said the victim was renting the home at 2800 Wildhorse Lane, on the northwest corner of Stephanie Way and Wildhorse.
"We have very limited information we can release now," Logan said.
