A suspected drunk driver rear-ended the marked patrol vehicle of an El Dorado County sheriff's deputy early Wednesday in South Lake Tahoe, authorities said.
Deputy Rory McIntyre was treated at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe and released after his patrol car was struck from behind at about 2:15 a.m. The deputy had been conducting a traffic stop at Highway 50 and Blue Lakes Avenue.
"He's a little banged-up and recovering from his injuries," said El Dorado County Sheriff's Lt. Les Lovell.
The 26-year-old driver, Brooke Sullivan, was arrested by South Lake Tahoe police on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and causing bodily injury to another person. She was booked into the El Dorado County Jail with bail set at $25,000.
Both vehicles sustained major damage, Lovell said. McIntyre will be off work while he recovers from his injuries.
"The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and our local law enforcement partners wish to remind everyone of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and the harmful consequences to our community," Lovell said in a statement.
