Reese W. Imobersteg

1920-2008

A memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday for 40-year Sheridan resident and volunteer firefighter Reese W. Imobersteg, 87, who died Feb. 23, 2008, in Minden.

Mr. Imobersteg was born July 7, 1920, in San Francisco to William Tell and Olive Lillian Imobersteg. He graduated from Burlingame High School on Feb. 2, 1939 and served in the U.S. Army's 740th Tank Battalion during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster.

He was a driver for the Greyhound Bus Line. He married Betty Jobe Imobersteg on March 15, 1968, in Carson City. He served on the Sheridan Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, was a member of the Sierra Club and a supporter of KUNR.

His interests included home improvement, desert camping, classical music and opera.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; brother-in-law Nick J. Jobe Jr. and wife Kazuko; sisters-in-law Dorothy Larson and husband Jervis and Donna Keller and husband Jerome and five nieces and four nephews.

Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City. FitzHenry's Carson Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Donald "Pappa Don" John Shehady

1921-2008

A celebration of life is 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith Valley High School for Yerington native Donald "Pappa Don" John Shehady, who died Feb. 23, 2008, at his home in Smith Valley.

Born May 31, 1921, in Yerington to John and Sardie Kafoury Shehady, he was the third of four children.

Mr. Shehady grew up on the family farm and attended school in Yerington. He played in the 1939 championship Yerington High School team that went to Las Vegas. He graduated from Yerington High in 1940.

Mr. Shehady stayed home to run the family farm when his brother Jack, went off to war. In 1948, he moved with his family to Reno and worked at Sanford Tractor Co., which is where he met his wife, Teresa Mencarini. The couple were married July 23, 1950, and they moved to Smith Valley in 1951, where they farmed for the rest of their lives.

Mr. Shehady loved children, and supported many local organizations by selling thousands of raffle and dinner tickets. He was a member of the Smith Valley Fire Department for more than 40 years, a member of the Smith Valley Fire Protection District Board, Smith Valley P.T.A., Smith Valley Booster Club and Masonic Hope Lodge No. 22. Although not an actual member, Mr. Shehady worked for the local St. John's/Smith Valley United Methodist Church auction by selling raffle tickets.

Mr. Shehady was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and sisters Lucille Shehady and Helena Lommori. He is survived by his brother, Jack (Eldra) Shehady of Sparks; his children, Tosca (Tom) Renner and Daniel (Traci) Shehady of Smith Valley; his grandchildren, Domenic (Mary) Dini of Reno, Brandon Dini of Spring Creek, Joshua Renner and Shaina Renner of Smith Valley, Steveie Jo Shehady of Texas, Daniel Cody Shehady and Donald Ellis Shehady of Reno; and his great-grandchildren, Hailey and Chandler as well as several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Smith Valley immediately following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Smith Valley Volunteer Fire Department, 1 Hardie Lane in Smith or to the Smith Valley High School Booster Club.
