A high wind watch kicks off on this Leap Year Day night and will last through Saturday morning as a cold front rolls through Western Nevada. Winds in front of the front will be 20-35 mph with gusts of up to 80 mph in the foothills.
On the other side of the front, showers are supposed to start after 4 a.m. But the winds will be shredding the clouds as they hit the Sierra, so don't expect much. The National Weather Service is predicting a 20 percent chance of rain through Saturday night.
While the business tax will be a pretty big item on county commissioners agenda next week, two ballot initiatives are also going to be discussed, including the amended weight ordinance at Minden-Tahoe Airport and the building permit allocation. Commissioners meet 1 p.m. in the old Minden courthouse, 1616 Eighth St.
