Supporters of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul have formed campaign support groups to coordinate efforts via Internet sites called meetups.

Paul, a Texas congressman, has raised more than $4 million in one day and almost $20 million in the fourth quarter of 2007, mostly via Internet, and wins many internet polls, according to supporter Jack Van Dien.

The Minden/Gardnerville meetup is ronpaul.meetup.com/1424/ which carries links to meetup groups in Reno, Sparks, Carson, Incline and around the country.

Local supporters have held three meetings so far to exchange information on precinct contact lists, caucus information, campaign signs, events, and volunteers to help with Republican caucuses on Jan. 19. Interested voters can join the meetup Web site or contact Van Dien at 230-1142 or vandienjl@charter.net or any of the members on the meetup Web site.
