With two casinos seeking height variances, the consolidation of the Sierra and East Fork fire districts, and about an hour worth of airport issues, Douglas County commissioners are starting off at 9 a.m. today. They meet in the county commission chambers in downtown Minden.
The National Weather Service has the trifecta up on its Web site with a high wind warning, a weather statement and a winter storm warning. First the winds, which should hit about 4 a.m. Friday with gusts of up to 60 mph. Today should top out at 35 mph. Then comes the moisture. The storm developing in the Pacific will hit Friday and could leave several inches of snow in the Valleys. Make that feet in the Sierra, if it all pans out.
Today and tonight there's a 50 percent chance of showers with a high in the upper 40s and a low in the upper 30s as the storm pushes warm air out in front of it.
