Windows were shot out, apparently with a BB or pellet gun, on several vehicles, a business and a loft apartment on Wednesday night, police reports indicate.
Carson City Sheriff's deputies responded to 14 reports of car windows being shot out between 9-11:49 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Vehicles on Desatoya, Pheasant, Gordonia, Brookside, Shady Oak, four cars on Walker, two on Brentwood and four on Woodside drives were hit.
On Thursday morning, nine more reports came in from Pheasant, Baker, Stanton and Jewel drives. Also, deputies received reports Thursday morning that windows were shot out on the Meineke on South Carson Street and the windows of a loft off East Fifth Street.
Police reports indicate a resident on Florentine Drive reported at 10:53 p.m. that there were about five subjects trying to break into vehicles on that street, but no one was located. It's not known if this call is related to the window shootings.
"We have no witnesses and no leads," said Sheriff Kenny Furlong.
Furlong said deputies will increase patrols in the area, and he asked that residents keep an eye out for suspicious activities and noises.
"Typically a shooter like this is driving by, he shoots and is long gone before anyone can do anything about it," he said. "Get a description, get a direction. Get us as much information as possible so we can get into the area and stop them."
Residents should call 911 if they see or hear anything.
In February 2007 David Scott Killen shot out the windows of a number of businesses along Highway 395 from Carson to Gardnerville. He is awaiting sentencing later this month in the shootings. Killen also may possibly be facing federal charges in connection with the theft of mail from Carson City boxes. A preliminary hearing in the theft case was continued and a new date has not been set.
