For the second time in four years, bad weather has forced a cancellation for the Carson Valley Lions Club Invitational wrestling tournament.
"Washoe County cancelled everything for today (Friday) and they thought it was a pretty good chance they'd cancel their transportation for tomorrow," Douglas High athletic secretary Cathy Rahe said. "That was about 90 percent of our athletic field, so we didn't think we could make a go of it."
The announcement came a day after Douglas head coach Lamont McCann had received some good news.
"I'm pretty bumbed out," McCann said. "All the top teams that had been headed to a tournament in California this weekend didn't think they would be able to make it over the mountain, so they all called me to see if they could come down to our event.
"It was have really been an awesome tournament. But that's just the way these things go."
To top it, the school discovered a small trickle of water was found behind the bleachers Friday morning.
School officials went up on the roof to determine what the source was, but that was expected to be cleaned up by Saturday.
