A South Lake Tahoe man has been arrested in connection with the New Year's Eve robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank, located inside the Raley's at 4010 Lake Tahoe Blvd.
Scott Alan Pearson, 48, was arrested after an investigation by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the local office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The bank was robbed by someone who claimed to have had a bomb. The suspect left an item at the scene, identified it as a bomb, and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Due to a potential bomb being at the scene, the bank, along with the Raley's Supermarket were evacuated. The Tahoe-Douglas Bomb Squad responded to the scene and examined the device. The device turned out to be a convincing fake. The Raley's Supermarket was reopened at about 7 p.m.
On Friday afternoon investigators from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation located and arrested Scott Pearson on charges of robbery, burglary and using a destructive device to terrorize.
Pearson was arrested at 3876 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The investigators had learned of Pearson's identity based on their investigation and information associated with the security surveillance tapes.
Pearson is being held on charges at the El Dorado County Jail on $250,000 bail.
