Parks and Recreation has a class for every body

How about a brand new you for the brand new year? From cycling training to Pilates, Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department has many classes designed to get you into shape.


Preregistration is required for all classes at the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department, 1327 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. excluding holidays. Information, douglascountynv.gov or 782-9828.




Indoor Cycling Training


This class is designed to suit the beginner as well as experienced cyclist. It's possible to burn 400 to 600 calories per hour. The class offers an alternative to being outdoors when the weather or short winter days keep you inside. Class is 10-10:50 a.m. Saturdays at World Gym. Cost is $30 per month.




Cardio Kickboxing


This class is designed to improve fitness while learning kickboxing fundamentals. Class is 5:45-6:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at World Gym. Cost is $60 per month.




Spencer Pilates


This class is a mat and ball Pilate's class that is great for beginner to advanced levels. Pilates concentrates on the core (abs, lower back) toning and elongating muscles. Class is 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays or 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays at Minden Elementary School. Cost is $20 per month.




Got the Music Fitness


Have you been away from a fitness routine too long? Join others in a healthy activity of moving to all kinds of music. Have fun getting into shape by dancing, walking, firming and basic yoga stretching. Class is 6-7 p.m. Mondays at Piñon Hills Elementary School. Cost is $21 per month.




Dance 5


Dance 5 is designed for learning different styles of dance including ballet, jazz, modern and hip hop and hooping. Each class includes a warm-up, stretch, workout and lots of dancing. Class is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays, 7:15-8:15 a.m. Thursdays or 9:15-10:15 a.m. Saturdays at Dance Workshop. Cost is $45 per month.




Hooping


Hooping is an aerobic workout using large, slightly weighted hoops, similar to Hula Hoops. This class could compliment an existing workout routine as an alternative way to move and stay fit. Hoops are available for use and for purchase. Class is 4-5 p.m. Fridays at Dance Workshop. Cost is $45 per month.
