Fishing pays big bucks

With a heavy covering of snow for the second week of the Topaz Lake Fishing Derby, fishing started out slow and ended with two tagged fish, and several fish weighing from 2 pounds 9 ounces to 4 pounds 6 ounces.

A $500 tagged fish was caught by Stephen Vaughn of South Lake Tahoe weighing in at 2 pounds 3 ounces and was 18 inches long. Joe Pomeroy of Gardnerville also landed a $500 tagged fish that weighed 2 pounds and was 17.5 inches long.

The biggest fish for the second week of the derby, worth $50 for the first place win, goes to Ken Dines of Topaz Lake. His fish weighed in at 4 pounds 6 ounces and was 21.5 inches.

The second place winner of $25 goes to Don Romine of Gardnerville with his catch weighing in at 3 pounds 12 ounces and measuring 20 inches long.
