Lee Zimmerman of Johnson Lane bagged a seven-point, half-ton elk bull after camping in the Monitor Range of central Nevada for 13 days last November with his brother, Larry Zimmerman of Reno.
"We were north of table mountain, in unit 16. The first day we saw cows and bulls, but couldn't get a shot," said Lee Zimmerman. "We didn't see elk again until the last day."
Zimmerman said he used his Remington 7mm rifle and found a nice shot at about six in the morning.
"This is my first elk," he said. "It's funny. My daughter got a deer tag for the same area. We were out there two weeks earlier and saw some elk, then I came back."
Zimmerman said he is enjoying the venison.
