The Douglas County grand jury returned indictments against two people suspected of trafficking methamphetamine and a man accused of sexually assaulting a child.
Nayo Orozco-Ortiz, 28, of Carson City, and Valdene Elaine Roberts, 37, of Gardnerville, were charged in a Dec. 22 transaction at the Sweetwater Car Wash in Gardnerville that ended with the seizure of nine pounds of methamphetamine worth $400,000.
Ortiz is charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and conspiracy to violate the Uniformed Controlled Substances Act.
Roberts is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.
A third defendant, Crispin Pacheco, 35, of Carson City, waived a preliminary hearing and is set to plead Jan. 28 to one count of trafficking in a controlled substance and one count of conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Street Enforcement Team, working in conjunction with the Tri-Net Task Force, ended a month-long investigation with the three arrests and the largest seizure of methamphetamine ever in Carson Valley.
The three were arrested at the car wash after investigators received several tips about an incoming shipment of methamphetamine.
Orozco-Ortiz and Pacheco have additional holds from U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement.
Orozco-Ortiz is being held on $110,000 bail in Douglas County Jail; Pacheco's bail is $115,000.
Roberts was released after posting $10,000 cash.
The grand jury also indicted Valter Verbanac, 54, of Gardnerville, on two charges of sexual assault against a child under 16 and one count of abuse of a child under 18.
He is accused of assaulting the victim between April 2001-April 2005 when she was 12-13.
Verbanac is in Douglas County Jail on $100,000 cash bail.
