The Douglas High boys' basketball team overcame its share of adversity in the first half on its way to a hard-earned, come-from-behind 69-63 win at South Tahoe on Saturday.

South Tahoe jumped on the second-place Tigers early on, leading by five points after eight minutes and extended that to eight by the break.

Douglas was called for three technical fouls in the first half in falling behind 36-28, but turned the game around in the third quarter when it outscored the Vikings 27-16 to take a 55-52 lead.

James McLaughlin helped spark the run by hitting three three-pointers in the third quarter. Douglas coach Corey Thacker said his team's defensive pressure in the second half was also a key to the win.

"We had some adversity in the first half," Thacker said. "The third quarter our kids came out and played hard.

"We had to stress composure. Getting a win, we're happy to sneak out of there with one."

Another key to the game was the Tigers' advantage at the foul line. Douglas was 22-of-29 while the Vikings were 10-of-14.

Jeff Nady hit 6-of-7 foul shots on his way to scoring 16 points, David Laird was 10-of-12 from the line on his way to scoring 16 points, McLaughlin had 12 points and Tim Rudnick added 11 points.

South Tahoe's Vince Capellino led all scorers with 25 points and Stagnaro poured in 15.
