Barton Richard DeHart
1922-2007
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Feb. 23, 2008, at the Minden/Douglas Elks Lodge, 1276 Pit Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos for Barton Richard DeHart, 85, who died Dec. 21, 2007, at his Minden home.
A long-time Douglas County resident, Mr. DeHart was born Feb. 19, 1922, in Worth County, Mo., to Vernie Hobart DeHart and Tobitha Rosetta Campbell DeHart. He attended the Nation School in Allendale, Mo., and served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II in Normandy, France and Central Europe. During his service to his country he was awarded four Bronze Stars for valor. He was a member of the Minden/Douglas Elks Lodge No. 2670 for more than 25 years and he was a life member of the American Legion Capitol Post No. 4 at Carson City.
Mr. DeHart was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Clesa Levina Hulett and Treva Lavon Reed and brothers Vincent Astor DeHart, Wilburn Lee DeHart, Othel Laverene DeHart and Arnold Franklin DeHart. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Greta N. Spainhower DeHart of Minden; daughters Diana DeHart Scott and her husband Will of Reno; Shari DeHart Tilman and husband Jim of Minden; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Viola DeHart Beck and her husband Herb of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sister Bonnie DeHart Wehner and husband Al of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters-in-law Doloris DeHart of Bethany, Mo; Marge DeHart of Dundee, Ore.; and Anne DeHart of Green Valley, Ariz.
Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to the building fund of the Minden/Douglas Elks Lodge or St. Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada in Barton DeHart's name.
Daisy Dee Dodge
1926-2008
A private service is scheduled for Stateline resident Daisy Dee Dodge, 81, who died Jan. 22, 2008, at her home in Stateline.
Born Oct. 27, 1926, in Chico, Texas, to Lucien Mertz and Lena Biles Poteet, she graduated from Avalon High School on Catalina Island, Calif. She was a 31-year resident of Stateline, having moved from Manhattan Beach, Calif.
She worked as a customer service representative at Harrah's Lake Tahoe and loved her grandchildren and gardening.
Mrs. Dodge was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jack.
She is survived by sons Terry and Brad, and Brad's wife, Donna; daughter Debby Dodge-Winters and husband Ray; brothers Jerry and L.M. and wife Nancy; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
