The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Street Enforcement Team confiscated drugs worth more than $1 million last year from Douglas County.

The team was established in 2004 by Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini to investigate crimes related to illegal drug activity within Douglas County and surrounding areas.

The Street Enforcement Team conducted 56 investigations in 2007 that resulted in the seizure of nearly 300 ounces of methamphetamine, 9 ounces of cocaine, 17.2 grams of heroin, nearly 1,000 prescription pills, more than 5 pounds of processed marijuana and 98 mature marijuana plants.

Pierini said 82 suspects were arrested, and law enforcement seized two houses, 12 vehicles and $10,000.

Confiscated weapons include 14 handguns, six shotguns, 13 rifles and one assault rifle.

Pierini said he was proud of the team's work.

"Their efforts have made Douglas County a cleaner, safer community in which to reside and visit," he said.
