Valley high school students will be conducting a car wash at the Stratton Center Saturday to benefit the Minden Heidt family.
The car wash will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and any donations or contributions to help the family will be accepted.
Debbie Heidt was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis about 10 years ago, but the condition has dramatically worsened over the past five years.
Her husband Mark has been struggling with health issues as well and has been forced to wear a neck brace while dealing with a bone spur in his neck. He has been driving a bus for the county since being faced with closing down his small business at the Lake.
Of their three children, the two older ones have been actively involved in the Douglas High sports community with Kyle playing football and running track for the Tigers and Danyelle playing soccer and basketball.
Both teenagers have taken on jobs to help support the family, but with insurance costs and medical bills increasing, they have been stretched thin.
The family is looking for materials to complete a bedroom which will allow for a wheelchair-friendly environment and labor to help complete the bedroom remodel to make the room accessible to Debbie; utilities paid; financial assistance so the home does not go into foreclosure and groceries.
