The 4-H program has a history of turning out outstanding public speakers. If your children get shaky knees and sweaty palms when they have a presentation to give, they can join other Carson City/Storey County youth at a series of six free workshops designed to give them confidence in their public-speaking abilities.
A planning meeting for the workshops will be 6:30 - 8 p.m., July 22, at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Conference Room, 2621 Northgate Lane, Carson City. At this meeting, dates and times for the six weekly workshops will be determined.
The workshops are for youth ages 9 - 19, but parents who want to fine tune their public-speaking skills are also invited to attend. The workshops will include a wide variety of topics, such as controlling nervousness, interpreting body language and using audiovisual aids. Youth will also learn the importance of practicing and setting goals.
Interested youth do not need to be a current member of a 4-H club or pay any fees. For more information or to register, call University of Nevada Cooperative Extension in Carson City, (775)887-2252. The 4-H clubs are youth development and leadership programs of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
