Class of '98, where are you?

With the Douglas High School Class of 1998 10-year Reunion two weeks away, organizers are still frantically searching for almost 40 percent of the class.

"We've been advertising for six months," said '98 grad Pamela (Pumphrey) Litka. "We started with every Web site we could think of -- Classmates.com, MySpace, Reunion.com -- we put an announcement in the paper, we've been going around to local businesses and trying to spread it around by word of mouth as much as possible."

Of 396 faces in the 1998 yearbook, the reunion committee is still looking for 145 of them.

"We had a big class," Litka said. "When we started, we wanted to be able to accommodate everyone we went to school with, not just the graduates but the GED class, and people who went to school with us for a while but didn't graduate with us for some reason or another, like if they moved out of town.

"The biggest task has been trying to find everyone. We know there are a lot of people out there that don't know this is coming. We're hoping if they're still in town, or if their parents or grandparents are still in town, that they'll see this."

The two-day reunion begins July 25 at 8 p.m. with an adult mingle at the JT Bar and Grill and Highway 395 in Gardnerville.

A family picnic will be July 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lampe Park near the tennis courts and the main event will be the same day at 6:30 p.m. at Genoa Lakes.

"The picnic is just a chance to kind of sit down with everyone and show off your kids," Litka said. "Saturday night is something we've been working very hard on. There will be a slideshow and we're setting up a remembrance table in tribute to our classmates that have passed since high school.

"There is a lot of detail put into it. Genoa Lakes will be providing dinner and there will be a DJ to provide music. It should be a lot of fun."

Cost for the Saturday night event is $50 per person and $55 at the door.

Litka said she is receiving more addresses every day and is sending out invitations just as quickly.

"We're mostly going through e-mail now because time is running short for traditional mail," she said. "But we want anyone who attended school with us to be able to come to their 10-year reunion."

The event is being organized by Litka, Staci Estes, Danelle (Patterson) Crossman, Jessie (Wetzel) Porter and Krissie Thornhill.
