Cool and wet

Water temperature: 81 to 87 degrees

The Carson Valley Swim Center in Minden has indoor and outdoor pools, diving boards, and slides. There are water exercise and how to swim classes, and drop-in diving classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Admission to swim is $3.50 for adults, $1.75 for youth up to 18 years and $10 for a family. Public swim times are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For a full schedule, go to www.cvswim.com or call 782-8840.

Cool and entertaining

Auditorium temperature: 74 degrees

"Journey to the Center of the Earth" starts today at the Ironwood Stadium Cinema 8 in Minden. Admission prices range from $5.50 to $8.75 with a matinee price of $5.50 available until 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Matinee prices are in effect until 2 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The Silver Strike Lanes is a cool place to go from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Friday and until 11 p.m. on Saturday. Prices range from $2 to $3.25 per person per game.

Cool and quiet

Temperature: 78 degrees

The Douglas County Public Library in Minden is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Visit the Main Street Bookstore inside the Gardnerville museum for free.

The newly air-conditioned Genoa Court House Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
