The Ruhenstroth Volunteer Fire Department will host their annual barbecue, 4 p.m. to midnight Saturday, at their facility at 2008 Pinto Circle. Dinner will be from 4-8 p.m. and then dancing until midnight. This is the 17th year for the dinner and dance which has not raised prices in that time.

"It has always been a way for our neighbors to meet each other and to be able to meet the members of the department," said Assistant Fire Chief John Babcock.

For the low price of $6 per adult, $3 for children under 12, you can fill up on hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans (provided by Jethro's Oven and Grill in the Ranchos), corn on the cob, watermelon and more desserts than you can count. The wives of the department members sell beans to be used as tokens to purchase beverages.

This year a professional disc jockey from Coyote Entertainment will be providing the music for dancing. There will also be the traditional Hula Hoop contest for children of all ages. Remember you are only as old as you feel.

Door prizes and silent auction items include a two-night stay at Harrah's Tahoe this year. The selection is wide and varied so you are sure to be able to find something you want to bid on. Any surplus funds are used to purchase supplies for the department above and beyond what the district provides.

n Assistant Chief Babcock announced that four of our new firefighters were hired by East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts for the seasonal firefighter program. Rhiannon Broersma, Luc Rodarte, Adrian Marquez and Adam Wennhold, who returns for his second season as a lead. Drew Hughes is working as a seasonal firefighter with Incline Village and Jeremy Chandler has been hired by EFFPD as a full- time EMTII/Firefighter.

"We are very proud of their accomplishments," Babcock said.

If you would like more information on the seasonal firefighter program or becoming a member of the fire department, please visit their Web site at www.effpd.co.douglas.nv.us or call them at 782-9040.

n Although I haven't been able to verify if our Ruhenstroth Water Planning Steering Committee will have a table set up at the barbecue to bring you up to date with what they have learned over the past year, I am quite sure that they will be available to answer your questions.

The committee members

are Jim Liles, Rick Oliver, Rob Bates, Mark Gonzales, Tom Stanley, Vicki Bates, Stephanie Hicks and Mike Morley. You can also check the Web site that neighbor Gary Swift set up to keep us informed.

The address is www.geocities.com/ruhenstrothwater.

Have a ramblin' good week.
