The Douglas County Historical Society's Art and Wine Festival begins 4 p.m. Saturday at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville. The festivities include wine tasting, food from the Lions Club and the Cattlewomen's Association and art for viewing and sale and a raffle for the chance to win 30 bottles of wine.
You will be able to see and pre-order the 2009 DCHS Calendar at the festival. Cost is $7.50 or two for $14.

The annual Taste of the Towns walking tour is 5-9 p.m. Aug. 2 where you can sample food from Gardnerville restaurants " the Overland Hotel Basque Restaurant & Bar, J.T. Basque Bar & Dining Room, New Rancho Grande, Two Guys from Italy and Woodett's Diner. Booths set up in the museum's parking lot include Papa Murphy's, Port of Subs, Joe's BB Que, Russell's Mercantile, Walley's Hot Springs Resort & Spa, Cookie Girl and Sugar Daddy's Ice Cream.
Classical Glass, Fresh Ideas, Felix Pottery & Artisan's Shoppe, Ruby Rose Cowgirl Clothes, Country Carousel, Battle Born Wines, Baby Willows, Cheshire Antiques and Angler's Edge will be open for browsing, buying and tasting. The shops usually provide hors d'oeuvres or beverages. There will also be music and dancing.
Tickets for Taste of the Towns are on sale for $20 per person at the Gardnerville museum. The event is sponsored in part by the Douglas-Alpine Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. When you buy your ticket, you will be helping us in two ways as Thrivent will contribute 50 cents on each dollar made up to $1,100. That's special support money for your local museums for which we are most grateful.
