Concert in the park tonight

The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Departments' 12th annual Summer Family Concert Series in Minden Park continues with the Surf All-Stars, 6:30-8:30 p.m. tonight. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be sold by the Minden-Douglas Elks Lodge No. 2670 with proceeds to be used for community projects.

The Surf All-Stars are sponsored by the Town of Minden. The band members have played with the Surfaris, Chantays, Bel-Airs and Dick Dale's band. In their repertoire are surf songs of the '60s such as "Wipeout," "Pipeline" and "Mr. Moto."

The band, also known as the Duo-Tones + 2, is Paul Johnson and Gil Orr on guitars and Ron Eglit on bass and Dusty Watson on drums. Until recently, Eglit and Watson were the rhythm section for Dick Dale. Watson also plays with contemporary bands Slacktone and Agent Orange.

The free community concerts are made possible through the contributions of Carson Valley businesses and organizations including A.C.
