Thanks to everyone who came out last Saturday night to the Douglas County Historical Society's Art and Wine Festival. We all had a great time. Thanks to all of you who stopped by to pre-order copies of our 2009 DCHS calendar. We are thrilled so many of you are interested in having copies and giving copies as gifts.

Because of your overwhelming interest, you can pre-order copies at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, by e-mail at in2my2cats@yahoo.com or by phone at either the museum at 782-2555 or me directly at 790-1565. I will be in the Gardnerville museum parking lot during the Taste of the Towns on Aug. 2 with the calendar for you to see and pre-order as well.

Speaking of the Taste of the Towns, tickets are now on sale at the Gardnerville museum and you may come in or call and pay by credit card. Tickets are $20 per person and include the walking tour of the local restaurants and shops and all the booths that will be set up in the parking lot. Thrivent Financial is partially sponsoring this event to help raise even more money for the museums.

The band All Hat No Cattle, featuring Mike Maloney and Krista Jenkins, will be in the museum parking lot this year along with all the other food and beverage booths so dancing will also be a large part of the evening. This is the big event of the summer and one you won't want to miss.

Before you head out to the Taste of the Towns, be sure to snap that July in Douglas County photo and get it in to the museum by 4 p.m. July 31. With the winning July and August photo contest winners, the 2009 calendar will be complete and we can start printing to fulfill your orders.

Also coming up before the Taste of the Towns is the swap meet Saturday in the parking lot of the Gardnerville museum. Call today for booth space and save $10 over renting it tomorrow. At the last swap meet we still had smoke in the air, but tomorrow should be a gorgeous day " perfect for a swap meet.

Other events planned for August is Student-Senior Day on Aug. 2 featuring Mark Jensen, park interpreter for the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park. Mark will give his talk at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. Come learn about the history of the Valley.

Coming up on Aug. 14, the historical society's lecture series will present Sue Ballew, president of the Carson City Historical Society and a docent at the Nevada State Museum. Ms. Ballew is presently writing articles for the Nevada Appeal.

If you have any questions about anything mentioned here, please call the Douglas County Historical Society at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville at 782-2555. Visit our Web site at www.historicnevada.org. Remember, DCHS and its two museums do not receive any regular state or county funding. It's up to our members and friends to help us keep our doors open.
