A dozen people are seeking the position of Douglas County clerk-treasurer, an elected post being vacated by the retirement of 21-year veteran Barbara Griffin.
Griffin is retiring effective Aug. 31 and stressed the importance of having a replacement in time to prepare for the Nov. 4 general election.
Douglas County commissioners are scheduled to select a new clerk-treasurer at their Aug. 7 meeting.
Those applying for the position are:
- Stephanie Brooks is a Gardnerville Ranchos resident who has lived in Douglas County since 1999. She has an associate's degree in accounting from Western Nevada College and is co-owner of Brook Insurance Agency.
- Patricia G. Christian is a Foothill resident who has worked for the state of Nevada for 10 years. She is an appraiser for the department of taxation.
- Dana Michele Curtis is a Foothill resident who has worked for the Douglas County School District for 20 years. She graduated from Coleville High School and is currently secretary at Douglas High School.
- Judie Fisher-Crowley is a 30-year resident of Jacks Valley. She is a University of Nevada, Reno, graduate and served as personnel manager for Carson City for 22 years. She also served as executive director of the Northern Nevada Railway Foundation.
- Kathleen B. DeSocio is a Genoa resident and chairwoman of the Genoa Town Board. She is a graduate of Seina College with a bachelors degree in business.
- Penny Galvin is a Gardnerville resident and notary public who graduated from Yerington High School. She is attending the University of Phoenix and has worked for the Alpine County Sheriff's Department and U.S. Bank.
- Robin V. Reedy is a Gardnerville resident and has worked for the Nevada treasurer's office for 18 years. She is currently chief deputy in the office. She has a bachelor's degree from California State University, Chico.
- Dilene A. Smith is a Gardnerville Ranchos resident and a retired U.S. Navy hospital pharmacy technician. She holds a bachelor's degree and a masters of business administration from the University of Phoenix. She is a three-year resident of the county.
- Anthony J. Spotts is a Gardnerville resident and graduate of Douglas High School and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
- Susan Spotts is a Gardnerville resident, who first moved to the county in 1977. she holds an associates in business management from Western Nevada College. She presently works for Aramark and was assistant manager of Pizza Bar for 11 years from 1988 to 1999.
- Virgil C. Strong II is a Gardnerville resident who worked for the Nevada Department of Prisons for 15 years. He is currently working on his masters degree in public administration.
- Ted Thran is a third-generation Carson Valley resident who has worked for the Douglas County treasurer's office for nine years, where he is an administrative analyst. He is a certified public accountant and a University of Nevada, Reno, graduate.
