Paint horse amateur competitor Laurel Champlin of Gardnerville won the Masters Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation title at the 2008 World Championship Paint Horse Show in Fort Worth on June 21 through July 5.
Champlin won the title showing Art Show, a 4-year-old gelding, at the American Paint Horse Association's premier event. In the class, competitors are judged on their ability to have their horse perform a pattern while maintaining correct posture in the saddle. Champlin was the best of a field of 25.
About 2,000 horses competed in 187 events at the World Championship Paint Horse Show. Winning a World Championship means a particular horse and rider are the best paint horse team in the world in a particular event. Total prizes and payouts totaled more than $400,000.
