Tai Chi meets

at Sharkey's

Douglas County Parks & Recreations Department's Tai Chi class will meet 8-10 a.m. Aug. 2 upstairs at Sharkey's because of the Elks Carnival in Lampe Park. The Tai Chi class returns to the park the following week. Information, 782-9828.


Swap meet Aug. 9

The Douglas County Historical Society's next swap meet is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9 in the parking lot of the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Smokey's birthday party Aug. 9

Smokey Bear's birthday is celebrated with ice cream making at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Douglas County Public Library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden. Sign up by Aug. 8, 782-9841.


Museum lecture series continues Aug. 14

Sue Ballew, president of the Carson City Historical Society, will portray women of the West, 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

The free lecture series is sponsored by the Douglas County Historical Society the second Thursday of the month. The museum and the Main Street Book Store will be open before and following the one-hour lecture. Information, 782-2555.


Free movie in the park Aug. 15

The Town of Gardnerville's Movies in the Park continues with Carson Valley Pops Orchestra entertaining with show tunes before the classic movie "Citizen Kane" at dusk Aug. 15 in Heritage Park, one block east of Highway 395 off Gilman Avenue.

Bring a blanket, sand chairs and bug repellent to watch movies under the stars. Pack a picnic or enjoy treats offered by Carson Valley Lions Club and Boy Scout Troop 411, Coldstone Creamery, Papa Murphy's Take 'N Bake Pizza and Subway.

The last movie of the summer is Disney's "Meet the Robinsons" on Sept. 5.
