The Douglas County Sheriff's Protective Association endorsed incumbent Doug Johnson and candidates Greg Lynn and Mike Olson for county commission in the Aug. 12 primary.

The endorsements were announced Wednesday.

The association, made up of 80 deputies, investigators and sergeants, conducted two days of candidates' forums July 8-9, inviting all contenders to address the group.

In selecting Lynn for the District 1 seat, the association said he "demonstrated a high degree of civic service in his voluntary county projects.

"It is our opinion Mr. Lynn is a man of his word and we appreciate his direct style of communication. In a review of his professional history, we believe he has a commitment to excellence and a strong work ethic."

The association cited Johnson's last four years as a county commissioner in District 3.

"There is no doubt as to his commitment to excellence in the service he performs for the citizens of Douglas County. We feel he has a firm grasp of the myriad of issues facing Douglas County and will continue to be a valuable member of the county commission."

In District 5, the association said residents would be well-served by Olson's experience as a planning commissioner and his commitment to public safety, insuring adequate staffing for emergency personnel.

"In this contentious environment (planning commission), he has demonstrated thoughtful consideration and critical thinking skills. Mr. Olson's business experience will add value to commission decisions concerning the enhancement of the economic base so vital to long-term financial stability."
