Hello fellow anglers.
It is that time of year again for the annual Sawmill Pond Kids Free Fishing Day.
This will be on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
I am very happy this year. I have had many calls from vendors and community businesses from Carson City to Sacramento that would like to participate or donate this year.
I have also received calls from members of the original High Mountain Anglers fishing club that will be on hand to help.
Again this year, El Dorado County Fish and Game will plant 1,000 pounds for the derby, and another 300 pounds the week of June 23.
The commission has already planted 400 pounds and will plant again in mid-July, depending on conditions.
This is great news to me. The pond will have fish for most of the summer months. My Naw hat is of to all of the fish and game commissioners that made this possible.
Now back to the main event.
Who will be there? The Optimist club of South Lake Tahoe and Raley's to cook hot dogs and serve soft drinks. Both of these fine organizations are greatly appreciated.
The original High Mountain Anglers will possibly set up a fish-cleaning station Thompson Manufacturing from Sacramento will donate Powerskoops, which no power bait angler should be without.
For his info you can log onto info@powerskoop.com. The Naw will be on hand with loaners poles for those that need one.
Walmart of Carson City has donated some bait for us this year and McDonald's has donated coupons for free drinks or fries.
A thank you goes out to the Forestry service for their fine service they do at Sawmill Pond every year.
Some basic rules to follow by: Enter on the meadow side to get a raffle ticket and a tackle pack. Kids must be 14 or younger and no coolers or chairs are permitted within 15 feet of the pond to give room for anglers. No lures during the derby hours, adults may help the kids but cannot do the actual fishing. The Pond Will Be closed to all fishing on Friday to ensure we have plenty of fish the day of the event.
We are asking people not to smoke near the pond. If you must smoke, please go into the meadow area or to the parking lot, but not near the kids.
Anyone having questions can call the Naw line at 267-9722. Leave a message and I will call you back.
A last reminder that this is also California free fishing day for everyone.
You must abide by all rules, but no license is required. Any questions call the Naw line. Hope to see you there. Good fishin' and tight lines.
