The department's function is to protect the health and welfare of the community and that of visitors by maintaining rabies control and enforcement programs. Rabies quarantines are also performed for a 10-day observation on all animals that have bitten humans. Dog licenses are available at all of the sheriff's substations. One-year licenses are $24 for unaltered dogs and $6 for altered dogs. Early renewal (with discounted rates) along with two- and three-year licenses are available (be sure to provide rabies and sterilization certificates).
