Toler Lane will be closed Monday through Aug. 13 from Highway 395 to Harvest Avenue as the road undergoes a $380,000 reconstruction.

"It will be a mess for a couple of months," said Jeff Foltz, Douglas County senior civil engineer.

The 2,800-foot project runs in front of Gardnerville Elementary School.

"We're doing it while school is out," Foltz said Friday.

"We know it is in really bad shape and long overdue."

The road will be closed Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. but will be open to local residents and on weekends.

"People will still have access to their homes and businesses," Foltz said.

Herback General Engineering of Minden won the bid for the project.

Foltz said the project was separate from an emergency road closure two weeks ago at Toler Lane and Orchard Road when a ditch culvert crumbled. The road was reopened after a temporary fix.

"We need to do something long-term," Foltz said. "That means some kind of a new structure, maybe a box culvert. There is a good chance we will do that this winter which means the road will be closed again for several weeks."
