A 24-year-old Stateline man remained hospitalized Monday in intensive care after Douglas County sheriff's deputies found him hanging by the neck from a bed sheet in a cell at the Stateline jail.

Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jim Halsey said Keith Martin Truswell was found at 5:58 a.m. Saturday hanging from a sheet that he apparently attached to a wall-mounted television shelf in his cell.

He had been arrested late Friday on a charge of driving under the influence.

"Upon discovering Truswell's suicide attempt, deputies quickly entered his cell and cut him free from the bed sheet," Halsey said. "Deputies found Truswell unconscious, with a weak pulse."

Officers performed life-saving procedures until paramedics arrived, Halsey said.

Trusell was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, where he remained in intensive care.
