Busy weekend in Antelope Valley

There will be several things happening this weekend in Antelope Valley and surrounding mountain sponsored by the Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the ATV Jamboree will take place, with riders covering several U.S. Forest Service trails. It will be really nice weather for them, and I know they'll have a great time.

The annual Spring Fling craft fair, food booths and flea market is at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday on Highway 395 in Walker. It will finish at 4 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Walker Community Center, there will be a luau dinner and no-host bar. The price is $15 for adults, $7.50 for children 12 and younger and those 2 and younger are free. The dinner will also be free for those riding in the ATV Jamboree.

All in all, it should be a busy and fun weekend.

Walker River Colorguard

The Walker River Colorguard marched Saturday in the Carson Valley Days Parade in Gardnerville. They performed to the theme from the movie "Indiana Jones" and were led by Cory Hussman as Indiana Jones on his horse, Broken Feather, with his sidekick Izzy Collins. The color guard's next appearance will be at the 4th of July parade in Bridgeport.

Giving them credit

In last week's column, I told you that the salutatorian and valedictorian at the Coleville High graduation both had grade point averages over 3.9. Unfortunately, I neglected to give the girls credit by name, so I want to tell you now. The salutatorian was Tawny Booher, with the valedictorian being Amara Rowley. As I said last week, these girls not only excel in class, but also on the athletic scene.

This and that

n It's the time of the year when you need to get your pets their snakebite shots if they go outside and could meet a snake up close and personal. Our dog, Richie, will be getting his booster shot in a few days. Please protect them from the results of a non-vaccinated experience with one of our local reptiles.

n I haven't heard of very many people who have received their economic stimulus check yet, but we got a mailed notice that we should have it this week. Somehow, I think it might take a little longer, but I'll enjoy it whenever it arrives. Hopefully yours is there soon.

I hope everyone enjoyed Father's Day and that the dads out there were treated really special.
