Swap meets start

The Douglas County Historical Society will hold swap meets beginning Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville. More swap meets are planned for June 28, July 12, July 26, Aug. 9, Aug. 23, Sept. 13 and Sept. 27.

There are 10-by-10 booths available for a $10 rental fee, or $20 if rented on the day of the meet. Information and applications at www.historicnevada.org or the front desk of the Gardnerville museum. Information, 782-2555.


Magiko arts show begins tonight

The Carson Valley Tourism & Visitors Authority-sponsored fine arts show during Magiko, a two-week tourism event in Carson Valley. The Historic Minden Arts Festival celebration begins with an artist reception, 6-9 p.m. today and continues 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the CVIC Hall and Minden Park on Esmeralda Street.

DAWG adoption event Saturday

Douglas Animal Welfare Group's dog adoption event is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Petco in Carson Valley Plaza. Eligiblity for free spaying or neutering for adopted dogs, free microchips and reimbursement for obedience training. Information, www.dawgrescue.com or 267-7325.


Pancakes served in the Ranchos

The Elks of Minden-Douglas Lodge No. 2670 serve pancake breakfast, 8:30-11 a.m. Sunday. Choice of pancakes, eggs/omelets, sausage, juice and coffee, $5.50 for adults and $3 for children. The lodge is located at 1276 Pit Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos.


Theater auditions next week

Auditions for "Night of January 16th" courtroom drama and murder trial by Ayn Rand are 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 2-4 p.m. June 28 and June 29 at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Summer reading program

Nancee Goldwater reads "No Bugs on Banjo," her book about a shelter dog that is up for adoption, 4 p.m. Wednesday, as part of the Douglas County Public Library's Summer Reading program, 1625 Library Lane, Minden. Information, 782-9841.


Art association features painter

Laverne Lightfoot will give a demonstration on pastel painting at the Carson Valley Art Association meeting 1:30 p.m. June 27 at Western Nevada College's Douglas campus off Buckeye Road in Minden. Public invited and refreshments will be served. Information, Ron Clarke, 782-8035.
